Offers & employment
For information on the process by which offers will be made to candidates, and the allocation of posts/programmes, please click on the appropriate category below.
Please note that there will not be a period of national clearing after the close of round 1 (R1). However, if there are vacant CMT posts remaining unfilled following round 2 (R2), a period of clearing will be implemented in the summer.
‹ Offers ›
Deaneries/UoAs can begin making offers to candidates once they have finished interviewing all 'their' candidates.
However, please be aware that there may be a delay between the last interview taking place and offers then being sent out; also, the sending of offers can be a slow process, as lower-ranked candidates will need to wait for candidates ranked above them to decline offers before they may receive an offer.
The offer of a training programme will be made via email, so please check your email account regularly.
You must respond to any offer you receive within 48 hours of receipt; this response must be to 'accept' or 'decline'.
Please note that this 48 hour limit does include weekends and bank holidays; so for instance, if you receive an offer on a Friday evening, you will need to respond by Sunday evening.
‹ Responding to offers ›
To respond to an offer you have received, firstly log in to your candidate portal (via the usual application system log in). Via your 'Track Application' area, you will then be presented with the offer, and the three possible options:
‹ Accept ›
To accept the offer, all you need do is select the 'accept' option in your portal and then click the 'Submit' button.
Soon after you will receive an email confirming your acceptance of the post. The deanery/UoA at which the post is based will then contact you at some point in the future with further details, such as exact start date, confirmation of rotations (see below), any further steps necessary, etc.
‹ Decline ›
If you do not wish to take up the CT1 post you have been offered, you should notify the offering deanery/UoA by declining the offer. To do this, log in to your candidate portal, select the 'decline' option therein and then click the 'Submit' button.
Upon declining the offer, you will receive an email from the offering deanery/UoA to confirm that you have declined the offer, and that your application will not progress any further.
Please be aware that if you decline a CT1 offer, you will not receive any further offers in this recruitment round - your application will be regarded as withdrawn. In addition, if you decline an offer, the deanery/UoA will then offer the post to the next candidate in contention; thus it will not be possible for the post to be re-offered to you at a later date if you change your mind.
Therefore - please do be absolutely certain that you do not want a CT1 post before you decline an offer.
‹ Hold ›
There is a third option available to you upon receipt of a post offer - that of 'holding' the offer long-term. By choosing this option, you will be able to delay making a decision beyond the standard 48-hour response deadline.
This function has been made available to allow candidates to consider the available options if they have applied to different specialties.
So for example, a candidate who wanted to apply to CMT and GP would have submitted applications for both; if they then receive a CMT offer, but have yet to hear the outcome of their GP application, the hold option allows them to keep the CMT offer ready while they await the GP outcome.
NB - the holding option is available across all specialties - so if the candidate in the above example receive the GP offer first, they would be able to hold that while awaiting the CMT outcome as well.
Notify offering deanery/UoA of wish to hold
Please note that even if you wish to hold an offer, you do still need to respond to the offering deanery/UoA within the usual 48-hour period to notify them of your wish to hold the offer. To do this, log in to your candidate portal, click the 'Hold' button, give the appropriate reason for wishing to hold, and then click 'submit'. Do be aware that the hold option registers quite quickly, so it may appear as if nothing has happened!
Upon electing to hold, you will receive an email confirming that your offer is on hold for the time being.
Accepting/declining held offers
To go back and accept/decline the offer at a later stage, simply log into your candidate portal, select the appropriate option and then click 'Submit'.
Holding deadline
Lastly - please be aware that this option to hold is only available up until the offer holding deadline (see the calendar page of this website for the deadline). After that point, candidates will not be able to receive any offers they receive, and candidates who have been holding offers previously will need to choose to accept or decline them.
‹ Rotations/Programme Allocation ›
Regarding the allocation of candidates to specific rotations within a deanery/UoA; this will be carried out according to local specifications. The exact methods by which this is done will vary between deaneries/UoAs.
For more information on rotations, please contact the relevant deanery/UoA.
‹ Employment ›
Following acceptance of a training programme offer, prospective employers - ie trusts/deaneries - will run criminal record and other checks, and approach your cited referees for references, if they have not done so already.
Provided that these factors are all satisfied, employers will then issue contracts of employment to appointed candidates, from June 2011 onwards. Employers will also confirm salary details, pay banding, rotas, induction arrangements, etc.
Of course, each individual deanery/trust will likely have its own particular methods and timescale for doing this, hence we would advise contacting them directly for more information if required.
‹ Post start date ›
CT1 posts will begin on the first Wednesday in August. In 2012, this date will be Wednesday 1 August 2012.
