Developments in medical training

A new internal medicine (IM) curriculum has been developed in response to Shape of Training and other drivers. The IM stage 1 curriculum has been submitted to the GMC and an approval decision is expected in October 2017. Further to approval, the three year IM stage 1 programme will replace core medical training (CMT) from August 2019.

Specialty curricula will also be rewritten and will go live in 2022 for the majority of specialties who will dual train with internal medicine. Some non-acute specialties will not dual train with internal medicine and they will select after two years of IM stage 1 training from August 2021.

Updates and further information will be provided via the JRCPTB website and trainee newsletters.
